We decided to base our first project around art. During the first stage of this project we went down to MCASD and took a tour of the museum to brain storm ideas for what we could possibly make. A couple of days after that, we were separated into groups of 4-5. The main idea that was supposed to drive each art piece was perception. My group hand sewed a quilt which was draped over a wooden box with a light inside. Each individual square on the quilt was supposed to represent a story or a type of person. This connected to perception because we didn't chose what each square meant. The people that saw the piece were supposed to decide that themselves, and every person would connect to a piece of the quilt differently because everyone perceives things differently. The light in the box was supposed to represent how we need to shred light on these stories. Our final product was displayed at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. On the night of exhibition, each group split into two groups for two shifts. During on our shift we had to explain to people what our project was about. Public speaking is definitely one of my strong suits. I was a able to talk confidentiality for my whole shift with no note cards. I had a lot of fun at exhibition and was extremely proud of myself. Having my work shown in an legitimate museum was exhilarating. During the time that I was not on my shift I went upstairs with some of my friends and had some of the fancy food that was being provided. We laughed and joked a lot while we were up there. Over all, I really enjoyed exhibition and would definitely do it again if I had the chance.
